Dentures are used to help solve problems that happen when patients start to lose teeth, whether we remove them or they fall out. After removing one or more teeth, a person’s mouth will start to shift, making changes to your mouth and your face!
For this reason, we offer complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are for when all of your teeth are missing, and partials are for when you still have a few teeth.
We also offer both conventional and immediate dentures. Immediate dentures are made prior to removing your teeth while conventional dentures are made afterward. Then it takes eight to twelve weeks to get them.
Complete (Full) Dentures
This removable denture is made to replace all of the teeth in top and/or bottom jaws once they teeth removed and the tissues have healed completely which may take several months. Dentures made of a custom pink acrylic with white acrylic teeth selected specifically to your desires. Complete dentures are to be taken out at night in order to allow your tissues to recover and to allow for proper cleaning for the denture(s).
Dentures can also be attached to implants to allow for a more secure fit. These are great for patients who have had teeth missing for a long time and no longer have a lot of bone in their jaw to support a denture. These dentures are known as Overdentures.
Partial Dentures
This removable denture is designed to replace multiple missing teeth in a jaw and is held in place by the remaining teeth in that particular jaw. Like a complete denture, it is removable and should be taken out at night. Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base or a metal base (for stability and retention) that is covered with pink acrylic. Partials use clasps to attach the removable partial to your existing teeth. These clasps can be made of metal or more natural looking pink colored material. If a partial that has a clasp attaching to your existing teeth is not for you then you might be interested in our partials that are attached to dental implants. These partials do not use any clasps to attach to your exiting teeth and look very natural.
At Downtown Dentistry, we also offer a partial with no metal in it called a Flexite® partial. This partial is flexible and is very comfortable.
When a partial denture is the option of choice to replace your missing teeth, it is extremely important that the teeth supporting the partial are in good health and are in optimal condition to support the partial. Therefore, sometimes crowns on your natural teeth are sometimes needed to improve the fit of a removable partial denture.
Transitional (Healing) Dentures
At Downtown Dentistry, you don’t have to be without teeth during the healing period after having all of your teeth removed. We offer our patients a healing denture(s) option that is inserted on the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. These dentures are a temporary option and require replacement once the healing period is complete and the permanent dentures are fabricated. The healing dentures then become a backup set of dentures in the event of a denture being misplaced or broken.
It is our goal to make the process go as smoothly as possible. We will discuss your options, and together we can decide the best way to proceed. If you have any questions about dentures or would like to schedule an examination to see if you could benefit from them, feel free to contact us today at (859) 987-5550.
